Support Groups and Resources
UT Southwestern Medical Center has a caring staff of medical professionals who are committed to enhancing patients’ quality of life as well as meeting the needs of patients’ families. We can direct patients to a variety of informative and enriching support groups and other resources, which can be tailored to meet their specific needs.
At UT Southwestern, excellence in patient care includes helping point the way to resources patients may not be familiar with, but which have proved invaluable to others. We trust these services will assist patients as they move forward on the road to healing and improved health.
Alcoholics Anonymous
Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism. Its primary purpose is to help members stay sober and help other alcoholics achieve sobriety.
American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry
The American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry (AAGP) is dedicated to promoting the mental health and well being of older people and improving the care of those with late-life mental disorders. It strives to enhance the knowledge base and standard of practice in geriatric psychiatry through education and research and to advocate for meeting the mental health needs of older Americans.
Anxiety Disorders Association of America
The Anxiety Disorders Association of America (ADAA) is the only national, nonprofit organization solely dedicated to informing the public, health-care professionals and legislators that anxiety disorders are real, serious and treatable. The ADAA promotes the early diagnosis, treatment and cure of anxiety disorders and is committed to improving the lives of the people who suffer from them.
Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance
Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance was formed to improve the lives of people living with mood disorders. Local chapters and support groups are available on the site.
Geriatric Mental Health Foundation
The Geriatric Mental Health Foundation (GMHF) was established by the American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry to raise awareness of psychiatric and mental health disorders affecting the elderly, eliminate the stigma of mental illness and treatment, promote healthy aging strategies, and increase access to quality mental health care for the elderly.
Mental Health Association of Greater Dallas
The National Mental Health Association (NMHA) is a national nonprofit organization with a century-old tradition that is dedicated to promoting mental health, preventing mental disorders and achieving victory over mental illness. The Greater Dallas chapter offers a variety of programs and services throughout the Metroplex.
National Alliance on Mental Illness
National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) is the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to improving the lives of persons living with serious mental illness.
National Center for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
The mission of the National Center for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), a special center within Veterans Affairs, is to advance the clinical care and social welfare of America's veterans through research, education, and training in the science, diagnosis and treatment of PTSD and stress-related disorders. It provides resources concerning PTSD for a variety of audiences.

The National Institute of Mental Health’s mission is to reduce the burden of mental and behavioral disorders through research on mind, brain and behavior.
National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism
The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), part of the National Institutes of Health, is the primary U.S. agency for conducting and supporting research on the causes, consequences, prevention and treatment of alcohol abuse, alcoholism and alcohol problems.

The National Women's Health Information Center (NWHIC) is one of the most reliable and current information resources on women’s health today. They offer free women’s health information on more than 800 topics (including mental health) through their call center and Web site.
