Annual Children’s Camp
Since 1992, Parkland Health & Hospital System has sponsored an annual camp for children who have survived burn injuries. Camp I-Thonka-Chi, which is Choctaw for "a place that makes one strong or fearless, not afraid to face life,” is an opportunity for children ages 6 to 18 to interact with others who have burn injuries.
Parkland Burn Survivor Group
The Parkland Burn Survivor Group involves burn survivors and their families and friends coming together to discuss issues they have encountered during and after recovery. During monthly meetings, therapists from Parkland Health & Hospital System are available to answer questions about rehabilitation therapy and home exercise programs. Each meeting has a different theme.
Survivors Offering Assistance in Recovery (SOAR)
Research has shown that peer support and shared experiences can have a positive impact on one’s emotional and social adjustment after a traumatic injury and better enable patients to live productive lives after a severe injury.
