UT Southwestern Medical Center’s University Hospitals offer both adult and youth volunteer programs in a variety of areas. A large mix of people comprises our volunteer ranks, including professionals, high school and college students, homemakers, and retirees.

Youth and Community Service Volunteers

Our volunteers help continue UT Southwestern’s tradition of caring service and assistance to our patients, guests and staff. We offer challenging and rewarding opportunities to help others and grow as individuals. Our volunteers have the opportunity to explore new interests, share their talents and meet new people. Whatever the volunteer’s interest, we can help find an area in which he or she will make a difference.

To participate in the youth program, volunteers must be 14 years old or have completed eighth grade. The annual seven-week summer program begins in June and continues through July. Youth volunteers may also perform community service throughout the year.

Community service volunteers are referred by the Volunteer Center of Dallas. Requirements are:

  • A need to complete 100 or more hours of service; and
  • Availability to volunteer between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Contact UT Southwestern’s Volunteer Services department at 214-645-1840 to obtain an application. Information may also be obtained by e-mailing UTSouthwesternVolunteers@utsouthwestern.edu.

UT Southwestern University Hospital Auxiliary

The UT Southwestern University Hospital Auxiliary is our volunteer membership organization.

The hospital auxiliary operates the gift shop, thrift shop and popcorn cart in the hospital, with all profits dedicated to special projects ─ such as hospital improvements and educational scholarship funds.

Adult volunteers may join the hospital auxiliary for $10 for a one-year membership fee or $100 for a Life Membership fee.
